Job Description

The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford invites applications for a full-time, 10-month Tenure Track position in Physical Therapy at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences pursues national prominence offering both the Doctor of Physical Therapy and the Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics programs along with undergraduate degree components. Our state-of-the-art research facilities include a Human Performance Laboratory, a Neurotronics Laboratory, a Motor Control Laboratory, a Pediatric Balance Laboratory, and a Sims (human simulator) Laboratory.


The chosen candidate’s primary responsibilities will include: culturally responsive teaching in areas of expertise; contributions to program development and assessment; active involvement in Department, College, and University committees, demonstration of high levels of professional productivity as evidenced by sustained excellence and innovation in her/his field of practice, and service to academic, professional, and Hartford area communities. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative, University Interdisciplinary Studies (UIS) curriculum.

The University of Hartford’s DPT program is a 3 year professional physical therapy program designed to prepare entry level graduates who function competently as members of a team of health professionals. The curricula provide students with strong foundational coursework in biomechanics and kinesiology, anatomy, neuroscience, human pathology and professional practice. A sequence of doctoral research courses provides students with the opportunity to engage in evidence-based practice as key members of the health care community.

Required Qualifications

The requirements for this position include: a terminal academic degree Ph.D., D.Sc., Ed.D., or equivalent in a health-related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to those with the following: teaching experience in higher education settings in courses including clinical biomechanics, musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment or clinical orthopedics, scientific inquiry and/or anatomy; willingness to employ educational technologies; and an interest in translational research including peer-reviewed presentations or publications.
