Job Description

Applied Teaching Assistant Professor in the S.I. Ward Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering with the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in the Electromechanical Engineering Technology program.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses in Electromechanical Engineering Technology with a teaching load of 4 courses per semester and develop courses related to elecromechanical systems in the department. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching. Additionally, candidates will be expected to participate in departmental and college committees, advise students, and contribute to student recruitment and retention. There are significant research collaboration opportunities with faculty members within CETA as well as across the University. Opportunities for scholarly collaboration also exist with industrial partners. Specific responsibilities in teaching, professional productivity, and service to the academic and professional community will be detailed and weighted at the time of hire in the letter of appointment. This Applied Assistant Professor position is an initial two year appointment with opportunity for renewals and longer term contracts. There is a comprehensive review in the fifth year.

Required Qualifications

Essential are excellent teaching, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The commitment and ability to recruit new undergraduate students is crucial. Earned masters in Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, and having experience with sensors and electromechanical system automation is required. Preference given to persons with a doctorate degree.

The Samuel I. Ward Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 14 full-time faculty members, enrolls approximately 340 students, and offers ABET-EAC accredited programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, an ABET-ETAC accredited program in Electronic Engineering Technology, baccalaureate degrees in Audio Engineering Technology, Computer and Electronic Engineering Technology, and Electromechanical Engineering Technology, a Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, and a Master of Science with specialization in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In addition the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) includes ABET-EAC accredited programs in Acoustical Engineering and Music, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, an ABET-ETAC accredited program in Architectural Engineering Technology, and a NAAB accredited Masters of Architecture. Within the College, there are 47 full-time faculty and 1100 students.
