Position Summary

Provides specialized security and communications services for the University, receiving and transmitting routine and emergency radio and telephone calls for service, prioritizing response needs and dispatching information to field officers and/or sergeants as appropriate. Performs all duties in full support of the University’s mission understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University’s students.

Key Responsibility
Description of Key Responsibility

Monitors, recieves and transmits the University of Hartford Public Safety radio and telephone communications systems. Analyzes all incoming calls and emails for assistance and takes effective, appropriate and timely courses of action. Coordinates the dispatching of appropriate personnel for situations including, but not limited to, emergency response, routine campus issues and/or general inquiries. Responds to requests for information from field personnel. Notifies appropriate University offices and departments of emergency situations and handles all requests for services required to respond to these situations. Handles highly sensitive information with confidentiality and tact.

Monitors several fire and intrusion alarm systems as well as closed circuit television (CCTV) systems, dispatching calls for service to appropriate internal and external personnel as necessary and appropriate. Takes appropriate action and ensures follow through when needed.

Utilizes and maintains Public Safety logs on a computerized information system to record all daily activities and other pertinent departmental information required in order for other personnel to complete their duties and responsibilities in an effective and timely manner.

Monitors all key card access control systems on campus. Assumes responsibility for the accurate disbursement of University keys, following established key issuing procedures.

Utilizing established University and departmental protocols, issues parking permits to faculty, staff, students, visitors and other guests of the University, as necessary and appropriate. Process payments for permits, fines and fees in accordance with University and departmental parking policies and procedures. Follows all policies and procedures for cash management.

Working Conditions

Normal office situation.

Education

HS Diploma or GED required. Must possess the ability to achieve and maintain CT State Telecommunicator’s Certification.

Physical Effort

Typically sitting at a desk or table.
Requires repeated reaching by extending hand(s) and/or arm(s) in any direction.
Intermittently sitting, standing, stooping.
Light lifting or carrying 25 lbs or less.
