Job Description

The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at The University of Hartford invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor clinical/applied teaching position as Director of Clinical Education for our Respiratory Care program. The appointment starts on July 1, 2018. The baccalaureate degree Respiratory Care Program at The University of Hartford emphasizes high-quality classroom teaching combined with excellent clinical rotations at our affiliate partner institutions. An on-campus, state-of-the art simulation laboratory allows for students to engage in realistic patient care scenarios that challenge and develop critical thinking skills. Advanced clinical rotations facilitate student expertise in specialized areas in respiratory care and are conducted in some of the best medical facilities in New England.


The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program including the organization and administration of practica, continuous review and revision of clinical experiences, development of new affiliate relationships, identification and implementation of pedagogical advances to meet the needs of evolving practice standards, and the general overall effectiveness of the students’ clinical education in Respiratory Care. The Director of Clinical Education will also assist the Program Director in strategic planning, assessment of student learning outcomes and measures of overall programmatic success, and maintenance of programmatic and institutional accreditation. Faculty member responsibilities within the Department of Health Sciences & Nursing include: teaching in the respiratory care and other health science programs (reduced load); student advising, student recruitment; committee service at the College and University levels; and professional productivity as evidenced by contributions to and innovations in the respiratory care profession.
There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies (UIS) curriculum. Candidates should also show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching.

Required Qualifications

The requirements for this clinical/applied teaching position include: a minimum of a Master’s degree in a health or related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment (doctorate preferred); credentials as a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care; membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC); eligibility for licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Connecticut; minimum of four years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years of experience in clinical respiratory care; and at least two years teaching experience in an accredited respiratory care program as either an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
